Fungal infection is the kind of infection caused by a fungus also called dermophyte. It affects the top layer of the upper layer of the skin, hair, tongue, or nails. Fungal infections normally begin in the lungs or on the skin. It progresses slowly. There are many types of fungal infections like skin fungal infections, nail fungal infections, fungal infections in the lungs, hair fungal infections, Fungal infections in the nervous system.

Skin fungal infection types: 

The most common types of skin fungal infections include athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, face fungus, and tinea versicolor.

A. Athlete's foot (Tinea pedis): Athlete's foot, a skin infection of the feet caused by a fungus. It is redness and cracking of the skin.

There are four kinds of foot fungal infection:
  • Interdigital (between the outer toes): Interdigital also called Morton's neuroma is an infection of the nerves in the foot that go to the toes. Burning, pain, tingling, uneasiness while walking are the symptoms of Interdigital.
  • Ulcerative: Is a secondary bacterial infection that occurs between the toes
  • Moccasin type; Is caused by the Trichophyton rubrum. This causes dry, rough skin on the sole of the foot. The skin under its usually pink and tender.
  • Vesicular: Caused by Trichophyton mentagrophytes usually on the foot. It also affects the other body parts like the arms, chest, or sides of the fingers.
B. Jock itch: The Jock Itch is a fungal infection of the skin in the groin also called tinea cruris. The fungus is an increase in the warm, wet environment. Men are more affected than women. Tight, wet clothing in the summertime, undergarments that trap in sweat are the main cause of jock itches.

C. Ringworm: is an infection of the skin or nails caused by a fungus. It is typically ring-shaped. Ringworm can affect the upper body, hands, groin area, or feet.

D. Face Fungus: Face Fungus is also known as (Tinea faciei). It is a small round or infected area of skin filled with pus. The symptoms of face fungus are red, scaly, and itchy, whereas others can produce a fine-scale similar to dry skin.

E. Tinea Versicolor : A common fungal skin infection found on normal skin, caused by the fungus Pityrosporum ovale. The infected area often dark reddish-tan in color. It affects the areas like the back, upper arms, underarms, chest, and neck.
